The On & Ones – Luminary

The On & Ones – Luminary

I first heard of The On & Ons when they acted as Paul Collins’ backup band on his Australian tour in 2014, If I recall correctly. I was working with Paul around the same time as I was given the task of book Collins and John Wicks (The Records) on their solo acoustic house-tour. I’ve been a huge fan of the band ever since.

Effortless Power Pop Hooks

With Luminary, The On & Ons give us a 14-track collection of pure guitar-pop Australian style. Following 2025’s Come On In, the band refines their signature sound—jangly guitars, effortless hooks, and warm vocal harmonies—into something even more consistent and memorable.

From the opening burst of “Constance”, Luminary radiates with guitar chime and irresistible hooks. Tracks like “Something New” perfectly blends psych-pop with bright guitar jangle. “Rebel Gone Bye” and “Leave Me Out” feature instantly memorable choruses and engaging backing vocals. The keyboard/piano arrangements are an extra nice touch.

What stands out most is the emotional range: upbeat anthems sit comfortably beside reflective moments. The On & Ons have always excelled at feel-good power pop, but here they sound revitalized—tighter, brighter, and better than ever.

The On & Ons are: Glenn Morris (Lead Vocals, Guitars), Brian Morris (Drums, Vocals), Clyde Bramley (Bass Vocals), and John Hoey (Keyboards).

Luminary is guitar pop at its finest: tuneful, and worthy of hitting “repeat”. If you love the jangle of Teenage Fanclub or The Byrds filtered through modern indie energy, this album is essential listening. You can get The On & Ons’ Luminary from their Bandcamp Page. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
