On and Ons – Come On In
Having acted as Paul Collins’ band for his King of Power Pop tour, the On and Ons have been around for at least fifteen years. In that time, they’ve been incredibly productive, having recorded four albums and an EP, each with a flair reminiscent of The Chevelles, Hoodoo Gurus and British Invasion bands of the 60’s and 70’s. Their fifth album, Come On In, was just released on JEM Records in the states.
While Come On In may be their first album since 2023’s Let Ya Hair Down, it’s worth nothing that it’s mostly a “best of” collection from previous releases. That said, they’ve pulled the best songs from their back catalog and added three new ones so as to appeal to the uninitiated and at the same time, grab long time fans as well.
The Retro Hits Keep On Comin’
Their retro “hits” have been all over Sirius XM radio and Little Steven’s Underground Garage so you may very well have heard a song or two. For those who haven’t, think back to the early Who records. If Townshend and company grew up down under, this is what they probably would have sounded like. The songwriting is rock solid, the harmonies are outstanding and the guitar work is just right. Fans will dig hearing some of the older tracks again such as “Long Ride”. “Let Ya Hair Down” and “Sunny Jim”. Personally, I really love “Roller Coaster” and “Been There”, two of the new additions to their catalog.
The band members are: Glenn Morris (Lead vocals, guitars), John Hoey (keyboards), Clyde Barmley (Vocals, bass), and Brian Morris-Vocals (drums). Additional musicians include Jon Roberts (Guitar), Murray Cook (Fender 12 string guitar) and Dennis Wilson (Bass).
