The Gold Needles – What’s Tomorrow Ever Done for You?
When one thinks of outstanding retro-pop labels, JEM Records will often come to mind. In February, the label releases What’s Tomorrow Ever Done for You, The Gold Needles’ follow up to 2019’s Through a Window. The Gold Needles do it better than most and their latest effort borrows from an abundance of influences – 60’s and otherwise.
The impossibly catchy melody and infectious bounce in the title track will grab you from the get-go. By the time the uber-jangly guitar solo gets here, we’re already in love with the song.
Blues rock fanatics will dig “Dead Man’s Hand” with a vibe not unlike Peter Green’s “Black Magic Woman” (and without a long Santana-esque guitar solo). And they even give us a little synth-pop with the catchy “Counting the Days”.
There are some fantastic covers here, too including The Beatles’ “If I Needed Someone” and the Hollies classic “Have You Ever Loved Somebody”.
