Suite Sixteen – Mine Would Be the Sun
Rob Nesbitt has been working on the material for Mine Would Be the Sun for over 15 years. This collection of 16 songs, all performed under the band name Suite Sixteen and written about the same woman, is the result of his coming to terms with end of a relationship that started in his teens.
“Start at 13”, the album’s opening track, will sound familiar to those who remember a mid 90’s New Jersey pop punk band named Evelyn Forever. There’s the short but harmony laden “Bob Greene” and the poppy, radio friendly “A Very Well Known Secret”. And like Evelyn, Rob isn’t a one trick pony. Listen to the guitars of “Burn and Cool” ring in an almost ornamental way, the string arrangements on “The 27th” or the pure guitar pop of “Taught Me a Lie”.
One of the year’s best power pop albums so far, you’ll wanna get Suite Sixteen’s Mine Would Be the Sun at their bandcamp page.
