The Legal Matters – Lost At Sea
The Legal Matters’ fourth album, Lost at Sea, arrives like a coast guard cutter here to save the day—polished, purposeful, and packed with the kind of melodic hooks that would make any power pop castaway scream with delight.
The album opens strong with “Everybody Knows”, a bright, chiming gem that blends jangly guitars with memorable choruses. “The Message” follows with similar radio-ready appeal, sharp hooks and layered harmonies. “Temporary Thing” delivers a punchy mid-tempo 70’s vibe with a little folksy twang. Kind of Old 97’s-ish. And “Stuck With You” is a whopping hook, start to finish. Lost At Sea is a power pop juggernaut.
It’s the lush vocals that stand out most to me—those harmonies are stunning. Blended with the band’s retro influences and it’s melodic punch, this album is incredibly engaging and worth repeated listening. Core members Andy Reed, Keith Klingensmith, and Chris Richards are joined by drummer Donny Brown (The Verve Pipe) contributing creatively across the board.
The Legal Matters’ Lost at Sea is set for release through Big Stir Records on February 27. You can pre-order your copy at this Big Stir Bandcamp page. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
