SLD – Look Back
Indigo Grey feels like a lifetime ago. However, SLD is back, albeit without one of its founding members. Paul Costanza picks up where he and cousin Tom Parisi left off in 2016 with Look Back (release date Feb 6 on Kool Kat). This very worthy follow-up honors the past while at the same time giving us an album chock full of fresh ideas, catchy hooks and heartfelt songwriting.
Costanza revisited old notebooks and demos in an effort to source material for Look Back. In the process of retrospection, he created a collection of songs that sound instantly familiar. And yet, they feel fresh, emotional and honest.
The title track has a Harry Nilsson vibe to it. Featuring dreamy, layered harmonies and wistful lyrics, it’s just one of many highlights. “Little Man” delivers a playful melody with it, showcasing infectious choruses that make this one a real earworm. Lyrically, the album explores themes of reflection, relationships, and resilience, maintaining an optimism underneath it all. Other highlights include the McCartney-esque “I Believe”, the peril that is “Come Back”, the bouncy “Everywhere She Goes” and the semi-acoustic “Out of Nowhere”.
With SLD’s Look Back, Costanza gives us a 12 track deeply personal journey down memory lane. You can get your copy of Look Back at Kool Kat Musik. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
