Greg Pope – The Roar of Silence
Going all the way back to his 2008 debut Popmonster, Greg Pope has been a Nashville power pop standard-bearer, blending razor-sharp hooks with lyrical wit. With The Roar of Silence, his eleventh solo LP, he doesn’t just meet our expectations—he surpasses them, crafting what may be his most assured and eclectic work yet. Recorded over this past summer, these 12 tracks possess the quiet confidence of an artist on top of his game, drawing from his ’70s-80’s influences while maintaining a unique, unmistakable sound.
Music For Film
The radio friendly “Worthy Son” is a natural opener with its bounce, hand claps and guitar jangle. The killer single “Fallen Star” is an unforgettably catchy track, its chugging rhythm guitar and soaring chorus making it a natural for FM radio. I bet we see this one in a film at some future date. “Trick of the Light” is pure gold with its ELO/Jeff Lynne vibe and mid-song key shifts.
Pope’s sons—Asher, Noah, and Finn—join on several cuts, too. You’ll hear their work on songs like “Immovable Feast” and “Blue Bird Fly.” The sea-shanty romp “Pirate Paddy” is a wonderfully absurd detour.
