Plasticsoul – Therapy

Plasticsoul – Therapy

The latest from LA’s Plasticsoul touches all the bases from straight up rockers to psyche pop. More importantly, while most songs grab the listener with immediacy, the remaining tunes get better with repeated listens. Plasticsoul’s Therapy is a must listen.

plasticsoul therapyThe title track is right out of the three chords and a cloud of dust template. Like those classic Plimsouls songs. It’s simple and catchy. Same can be said for the final track, “Biff, Bang Pow”. Both songs would fit in well on a disc with The Plimsouls’ “Now” and “Zero Hour”. If Wilson was trying to write an Elvis Costello song, he succeeded with “All Died Pretty”.

“In Her Raincoat” has everything a power pop single should. With a killer hook and jangle to spare, this song is a power pop tour de force. “The Girl of Many Tribes” has almost a dreamy, sunshine pop quality to it. The horns give this track a nice, almost Burt Bacharach vibe at points though. Sit back and have a Vodka Gimlet while listening to this one.

The intro to “King of Hash” is a nice touch. But it’s the hooky, static-y chorus (he loses the static later) and psychedelic period guitar that really make it special. This song and the aforementioned “In Her Raincoat” may be the best tracks I’ve heard this year – if it weren’t for the title track. You get the picture. Plasticsoul Therapy is more than good.

Get the digital download at the Bandcamp page or the physical product (CD) at Kool Kat Musik. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
