Brent Seavers – BS Stands for Brent Seavers
I nearly missed the clue. Take the pop sensibility and DIY appeal of early dB’s and combine that with the occasional silliness of John Flansburgh (They Might Be Giants) and you’ve got something really exciting. The new one from Brent Seavers, appropriately titled BS Stands for Brent Seavers.
Seaver’s affinity for the dB’s sound is immediate from track one. “Play” hangs on a nifty guitar hook and quirky lyrical content. “My Little Girl” bounces along to a ska-like beat with a monster hook of a chorus and a great opening lyric.
Seavers’ lyrical content is so entertaining. One can’t help but be enamored with the silliness of “I Wrote a Song” or “Unlike Superman”, two tunes guaranteed to make you smile.
“More Than a Friend” is the big payoff here, though. The guitars chug along into a chorus so catchy it’ll stick with you long after you first hear it. With a huge hook, guitar jangle to spare and a familiar theme everyone can identify with, it’s the whole package and one of my favorite songs of the year.
Brent Seavers’ BS Stands for Brent Seavers is everything a power pop fan should want. It’s both catchy and strikingly original. Just released, you don’t want to miss this Kool Kat Musik release. GET IT HERE. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
