Big Blast Records – The Singles Vol. 1
The Big Blast Records’ Bandcamp page says that you’ll be treated to “loud pop, hooky rock and roll, or whatever you wanna call it”. Phil Angotti, The Bishops Daredevil Stunt Club, The Glad Machine and others deliver on that promise and then some with The Singles Vol. 1, the new and first Big Blast label compilation.
Phil Angotti’s “The Lamp” is an instant favorite, sounding as it it draws from Revolver era Beatles. The Bishops Daredevil Stunt Club first caught our attention in 2018 with their big guitars and the magnificent “Christine, You’re Mean”. The guitars are front and center once again but this time with a more glam or arena rock approach.
The Glad Machine’s “Slow Motion July” has one of the catchier choruses I’ve heard in a while and Golden Richards’ “Honey West Kung Fu” is a 3:51 hook from start to finish. The doubled vocals and lots of guitar crunch crammed in, it’s about as radio friendly as one can get. Love this one! Mark Watson Band brings 90’s guitar pop to mind with the very melodic “When Two Still Feels Alone” and The Peeves give us a 3 minute punk-pop blast that delivers on the promise made by the label’s moniker.
The Big Blast Records’ The Singles Vol. 1 has me excited for what’s next. If you want to stay on top of the best new power pop (and I know you do), get The Singles Vol. 1 at the Big Blast Bandcamp page.
