Hot Nun – Born to Blaze EP

Released earlier this year, A View from Above was a guitar enthusiast’s wet dream. One might say a similar thing about Hot Nun – that is to say, the latest Jeff Shelton project. With Hot Nun’s Born to Blaze EP, Shelton once again blows the doors off the place with a pop sensibility that’s uniquely his. It’s Cheap Trick meets the blistering guitars and sonic goodness of Husker Du.

The great thing about any of Shelton’s projects is that while guitar soundscapes play a major role, he never loses sight of the most important thing – the hook. “Livin a Dirty Mind” and “Big Fat No” are good examples. But Hot Nun saves the best for last. The infectious chorus for “Rock “n” Roll Is My Advice” makes this one a real keeper.
