Jordan Jones – And I, You

Jordan Jones – And I, You

Jordan Jones is brand new to me. I’m told that his self-titled debut is one of the finest guitar driven, power pop records in recent memory. With that info, I expected similar from his new one entitled And I, You. I’ve come to learn that Jones’ latest is a departure from the norm.

Written at least partially during the pandemic, this latest batch of tunes are piano driven rather than guitar based. There’s a 70’s soft rock quality to much of the album. And while that normally isn’t my fare, these songs are so well crafted, so engaging that I find myself thoroughly enjoying them. The harmonies are pleasing. The orchestral arrangements are just right. And the melodies are memorable.

Short But Oh So Sweet

Seven tracks in all, And You, I is not a lengthy affair. That said, every track meets an incredibly high standard. No filler here. “Love Song” is silky smooth with its easy, sing along melody. The horns are a nice touch. “Can I Stay” is a bit more up tempo than much of the record and it’s got a really catchy chorus. “Adore You” mighta been a soft rock hit in the 70’s. I imagine that “Love Or Lose” could fit well in a 50’s black and white movie. In fact, it’s ideal for film.

There’s a lot here to like, even for those who prefer guitars to piano. Jordan Jones’ And You, I makes me want to delve into his earlier work. You can find his latest at Amazon (digital) or Kool Kat Musik (CD).
