The Yum Yums – Poppin’ Up Again
When you land in Oslo, take the Road to Ruin until you get to The Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus. Look for the sign that says “Rum Bar Records”. There, you’ll find The Yum Yums and their new bubblegum-pop-punk LP entitled Poppin’ Up Again.
A follow up to the outstanding For Those About to Pop, Poppin’ Up Again has all the earmarks of its predecessor – high energy, great harmonies and big hooks. Seventeen tracks in all (all pretty much about girls), the boys from Norway never let up on the gas pedal. It’s a great escape from these troubled times.
Bubblegum Pop On Speed
“Vitamin U” chugs along like a locomotive with Dee Dee Ramone in the driver’s seat. “Got Me Good” boasts an infectiously hooky chorus and that same Ramones guitar crunch as the previous track. Speaking of hooks, “Do You Like Me” is about as catchy as anything I’ve heard since The Decedents came along a few decades ago.
The only mid tempo track on the record, “Candy” sees the guys channeling The Beach Boys with killer harmonies and a vibe perfect for ushering in the Summer of ’24. And the title track is a real winner, too.

Here’s the bottom line. All 17 tracks are keepers and most are outstanding. This may be the album of the year for me so far as it’s not only good on the first listen but keeps getting better with each successive one. The Yum Yum’s Poppin’ Up Again is available through Rum Bar Records. You’d be crazy not to pick up your copy asap.
