Chris Church – Radio Transient
Despite the fact that he’s a local product, I’ve never been much of a Chris Church fan. So when his new one, Radio Transient, found its way to my desk, I didn’t expect to be writing about it. But here we are, courtesy of his most accessible album to date.
The LP’s first single, “Going Til We Go”, consists of an upbeat, hooky melody draped around a familiar synth pattern. Add some 80’s inspired guitar lines and we’ve got a pretty catchy pop number. But it isn’t the catchiest track on Radio Transient.
Can I Get a Witness?
Cue up “One More Chance to Get Over You”. If you weren’t a Church goer before, this may be the track that makes you a convert. Not only is the melody infectious but it sports a wonderful guitar solo from pop legend Bill Lloyd. “Already In It” is another accessible, memorable song. And there’s plenty for those who prefer the quirkier tracks. All in all, its a very satisfying listening experience.
While Church performs admirably in any number of capacities (lead vocals, guitars, synth, keys, percussion), he receives meaningful contributions from Nick Bertling (drums), Lindsey Murray (backing vocals), Lori Franklin (production), and the aforementioned Bill Lloyd.
