Ray Paul – Bloody Rubbish
When John Borack updated his quintessential power pop guide Shake Some Action 2.0, he added Whimsicality into his top 200 greatest power pop albums. That tells you all you need to know about the power pop prowess of Ray Paul.
With his follow up, Bloody Rubbish (The Best & Some of the Rest), Paul gives us 10 delectable, British Invasion infused goodies. This best of collection spans his career, cherry picking the finest and adding a couple of live songs with RPM as well as a previously unrecorded studio track.
Speaking of cherry picking, Ray Paul’s voice is ideal for that 60’s Raspberries vibe. Case in point, the opening track. “I Need Your Love Tonight” is pure power pop at its very finest. And here’s the kicker; that’s Terry Draper of Klaatu on drums! Adding to the star power, Kurt Reill of New Jersey’s The Gripweeds guests on a track, too.
If I may channel the old KTEL commercials, and that’s not all! As well as the live tracks mentioned above, the early singles are here – A & B sides – remastered for your listening pleasure.
Bloody Rubbish (The Best & Some of the Rest) is a must for the power pop connoisseur and anyone prefers melodic pop. Release date is May 17 so pre-order your CD copy NOW at Kool Kat Musik. Vinyl will be available later this year.
