Addison Love – Thoughts on Lunch?

At the ripe old age of 22, Addison Love is already a pop-rock veteran. He’s from a musical family and has been performing for some time. As one third of Yorktown Lads, he gave us a fine pop album entitled Songs About Girls. This year he gives us his debut solo effort called Thoughts on Lunch? and it’s another winner.

The British Invasion influence are front and center once again. At various points, you’ll hear elements of The Beatles and The Who. Most significantly, Thoughts on Lunch? is a collection of well written, superbly performed songs with interesting twists and pleasing harmonies – for the most part performed by Love himself.

An early track is a case in point. You’ll hear a little bit of The Who in the bridge of “Anything’s Right”, a bouncy little number and an early favorite. A wonderfully funny character sketch, “The Ballad of Dr. Minard” incorporates accordion and barber shop quartet style harmonies to create another very memorable track. “Wee & Nancy Lee” is the obvious single here. A great vocal performance and guitar runs right out of the McCartney & Wings handbook make this very hooky little number a real winner.

While I found “Like The Beatles” a bit trite, the rest of Addison Love’s Thoughts on Lunch? is a very strong debut effort from start to finish. Get your copy from the Big Stir label website or at Kool Kat Musik.
