Diamond Hands II

Diamond Hands has released their follow up LP just in time for the 2018 version of the Summer of Love. From the Beach Boys like harmonies of “San Francisco” to the cheesy (in a good way) Question Mark and the Mysterians keyboard stylings in “Caught Up In a Memory”, Diamonds Hands II is a celebration of 60’s influenced power pop – and there’s no shortage of pop hooks, guitar jangle and catchy choruses.

“Mother” is an irresistible song that conjures up the sounds of Imagine era John Lennon. “LA Girl” and “Not Sorry” would be perfectly at home on early 80’s AM radio. If it’s psyche-pop you prefer, “Eastern Shore” brings the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi right to you.

Jon Flynn and Joel Wall comprise the band in it’s entirety. They’re responsible for the songwriting and music right down to the beautiful cello touch on “PCH”.

As much as I really love the 60’s Beatles sound that the guys bring, the track that departs from that script may be my favorite. “Perfect Day (Monterey Pop)” is a stunningly beautiful song with a country twang that I can play back again and again (and have!).

With the release of David Myhr’s Lucky Day and now Diamond Hands II, early summer is proving to be a very fruitful season for fans of melodic music. Whether you became a fan of Diamond Hands with their debut release or you’ve not yet been introduced to the work of Flynn and Wall, this new album is a must listen.
