K7’s – Take 1

You know what I really dig about late 90s punk rock? The fact that you could listen to the entire album, front to back, without skipping a single track. The other great thing about 90s punk rock was the amount of energy packed into a two and a half minute song.

Half way through the first song on the new K7s record I cranked it up because I knew I was in for a nostalgic ride down punk-rock-memory-lane. If you’re a fan of No Use for a Name, Blink-182 (yes, it is necessary to specify), or MXPX, you’ll enjoy this album. And no surprise, the K7s frontman, Luis Sanchez got his start in 1991, a prime time for a lot of these bands. His pedigree in powerpop, fast punk, clean but energetic power chords, and catchy lyrics really come through in Take 1.

With a penchant for 2 – 3 minute songs, the K7s have the perfect recipe for the punk rock anthem. This record is a front to backer and will have you singing the hooks in no time. The chorus on “Never-ending Love” will stick with you and have you thinking back to your youthful high school romances. But fear not, “Go Away” will remind you that she sucked anyway.

Taking a break from Bullet Proof Lovers and Kurt Baker Combo, Kurt Baker lends his more than ample guitar and Jose Andres does a great job on drums to round out a powerful trio.
