Well Wishers – Shelf Life
It’s all hook and jangle with “We Grow Up”, the lead track to Well Wishers’ latest LP entitled Shelf Life. It’s the guitar heavy, jangly sound we’ve become accustomed to from Well Wishers. But with Shelf Life, Jeff Shelton gives us so much more.
There’s a little bit of country twang in a number of the album’s tracks, several of which are among my favorites. “Secrets and Lies” has a country feel both in it’s theme and sound. Brad Skaught’s guitar work on this one makes a great song that much better. I bet Dave Edmunds would have felt at home singing “You Never Have to Sing a Lonely Song” and “Who Cries” will feel just right to CCR enthusiasts. Both are so catchy you’ll be humming tem well after you the initial listen.
“Holiday’s Await” is another up-tempo story song that’s a start to finish hook. Here too, a country lick or two sneak in. This one will end up on my Christmas 2020 music comp, I’m sure.
Well Wishers albums often find their way onto year end best of lists. This will be no exception – and probably near the top of mine. Get your copy at Bandcamp or Kool Kat Musik.
