Top 3 Power Pop EPs of 2013
Although we cover power pop from all over the map, Carolina Orange has a preoccupation with music from the Carolinas and surrounding area. That being the case, it seems appropriate to list the top three EPs of 2014 from the southeastern region.
Here they are, the best of the best:
1) Jamie & Steve – Imaginary Cafe
Released the first day of 2013, it would never get better than this. While the Spongetones were smart and interesting, Jamie & Steve are smarter, quirkier, and even more interesting…and irresistibly melodic. From Charlotte NC, their can’t miss harmonies should never be missed, so catch ’em live if you can.
2) Justin Kline – Doormat
Tennessee’s Justin Kline has released the best surprise of 2013. The Weezer-esque title track gets the disc off to a kick-ass start and it only gets better from there. Don’t miss this one!
3) The Allrightniks – Three
This Roanoke VA band released two EPs this year, both worthy of your attention, but Three is just a little bit more interesting than Nothing’s What It Seems, imo. Highly enjoyable.
Thanks so much, Richard!!! And a happy new year to you!
Thanks for stopping by, Steve! Please let me know when your next show is – Looking forward to seeing/hearing you and Jamie whenever you’re on stage or on StageIt.
