The Weeklings – 3
When a bunch of power pop guys from New Jersey get together, it’s guaranteed to be a good time. Glen Burtnik and The Weeklings deliver big time with their new one entitled 3. Jangly guitars, great harmonies and killer hooks are the order of the day here.
The cascading guitar line in “In the Moment” reminds me of something from The Knack’s Zoom album while the overall vibe is Beatles times three. If you’re a pub rock guy (or gal) you’ll really dig “1000 Miles Away”, one of my favorite tracks on 3. “Change Your Mind” is infectiously catchy as is “Running Away”, a track that would fit in well with your Rubber soul era Beatles records.
Burtnik and the boys saved the best for last. “765” has the kind of Stones swagger that makes it really special. Take a drive down the Pacific Highway with the windows rolled down and crank this one!
Marty Scott and JEM Records have been putting out some great records over the past few years and this is one of the best, in my estimation. Get your copy directly from the Jem website or through Amazon.
