SPANKING CHARLENE – FIND ME OUT
Find Me Out is Spanking Charlene’s third album and their first in roughly ten years. It’s been a long wait for fans of Charlene McPherson and the band but it’s worth it. Her voice is dynamic and with Eric Ambel, Joan Jett’s former guitarist as producer, it’s got the pedigree factor working for it, too. That said, it’s the strong hooks that carry the day.
Blues enthusiast or not, you’re guaranteed to like the very catchy title track that opens the album. Even the guitar parts are seductive on “Sugar Love”, a little subversive number that’s one of my favorites on the record.
Several tracks are reminiscent of some of my favorite bands of the 80’s. “To Broke to Go Out” feels so much like X that I couldn’t help myself from bouncing in my seat. “Whiplash” would have made a good Go Go’s single and “Liar Liar” has a sax part in it that is guaranteed to put a smile on the face of any Romeo Void fan. And we all know there’s nothing quite like good sax.
Best of all, the songs are well written, the guitars are dynamic throughout and the hooks are plentiful. It’s as delightful a listening experience as I’ve had so far in 2020. Spanking Charlene’s Find Me Out is one you don’t wanna miss. GET THE CD HERE and GET THE DIGITAL ALBUM HERE.
