Power Pop Review: Diamond Hands

If Beatlesque pop is your thing, you’ll want to hear the new album by Diamond Hands. This collection of quick hits (all under 3 minutes) transports you right back to the days of 60’s AM radio.

While stylistically there is little resemblance, their brevity reminds me a bit of Buzzcocks. Short, concise bursts of melody and hooky choruses make for the perfect album for those with a short attention span (like yours, truly). The opening track, “Not the Same”, is indicative of Diamond Hands’ brand of efficient but catchy pop. The Beatles vibe continues with the equally satisfying “Maybe Tomorrow” with its hand claps and pleasing harmonies.

Things deviate a little bit with “Waste My Time” which has more of a 90’s alt pop feel. Diamond Hands go back to the prior formula with my personal favorite on the record, the uber-catchy “Just Another Day”. From Los Angeles, California, Diamond hands are Jon Flynn and Joel Wall.

There are 11 tracks in all on this release and not one dud. Available for the first time on CD at Kool Kat Musik. You’ll want to pick this one up.
