The Morning Line – Smoke
After an eight year hiatus, The Morning Line are back with a brand new release entitled Smoke. Originally released as a seven song EP earlier this year, Smoke has been re-released on the Kool Kat label with four extra tracks. It’s classic power pop, chock full of jangle and hooks.
“Los Angeles” is The Morning Line’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”. It’s thematically akin to the Green Day song with it’s memorable chorus “I get sick driving Mulholland. I hate you, Los Angeles”. The chiming guitars of “Anybody Else” are immediately appealing while the word play and alt-country feel of “Stars to Me” make this one a keeper.
The Kool Kat version of Smoke has four additional tracks, several of which are old demos. “Staten Island” is the first of these and a smart track to add. It’s a very catchy song that originally appeared on 2007’s Stay My Satellite. “Rather” rocks a little harder while “Polygraph” has a bit of a Stones/Replacements vibe to it.
While first seven songs are available as a download, I strongly suggest you get the Kool Kat version with the four extra tracks. They add a lot to the disk. Pick up The Morning Line’s Smoke at Kool Kat Musik.
