Jamie Hoover, Kim Kardashian & Pop Aid
I could never have imagined using the names Jamie Hoover and Kim Kardashian in the same sentence. That is, until now. Both appear (in some way) on Kool Kat Musik’s “Pop Aid”: A Power Pop Compilation to Benefit the People of the Ukraine. Let me explain.
Earlier this month, Kool Kat Musik released this 3 CD set of previously unreleased material assembled for the benefit of the citizens of Ukraine. To that end, Jamie Hoover contributed “Kim Kardashian”, a tongue in cheek, 3 min 54 sec ode to the queen of social media. Elena Rogers and Michael Ruiz (The Beat) each make special appearances on this track – and they’re all spectacular. You can hear and see the newly completed music video for “Kim Kardashian” below.
Joey Molland, The Flashcubes & More
With 63 artists represented and so many good songs, discussing each and every one would be far too laborious a task for this reviewer. That said, I simply must mention a few of the names involved in this very worthy project.
The 3 CD set includes stellar performances from top poppers like Cloud Eleven, Jeremy (w/ Ken Stringfellow), The Flashcubes, Mike Browning, Thrift Store Halo, The Glad Machine, Sun Sawed in 1/2, Arvidson & Butterflies, Star Collector, Psychotic Youth and Nick Frater as well as the aforementioned Mr. Hoover.
Joey Molland’s “Hero” is a most monumental 4 minutes of music. Everyone knows the story of Badfinger, the legendary power pop band of which Molland was an original member. There are few musicians still alive with his kind of cache. Molland makes you feel every word of “Hero”.
Get Pop Aid, Kim Kardahsian at Kool Kat
With 100% of all profits from the sale of the 3 CD set going to the World Central Kitchen, there’s no reason to delay. Get your copy of Pop Aid (including “Kim Kardashian”) on CD at Kool Kat Musik. If it’s digital mp3 that you prefer, visit the Pop Aid Bandcamp page. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
