Hoover & Martinez – The 3P
Jamie Hoover may very well be the hardest working man in power pop. He’s produced the newly released album from Bob Lind, Something Worse Than Loneliness. And there’s his contribution to the new Kool Kat Ukraine relief CD (more on that later).
Additionally, he’s co-written a couple of new songs with Catesby Jones, the author of Travis Tritt’s hit, “Country Club”. Having partnered with Christine Martinez, a formidable writer herself, Hoover & Martinez have just released a fantastic new EP entitled The 3P – and it’s a must for any fan of melodic pop.
The mini-album (or is it maxi-single?) opens up with “The Scene of the Cryin’”, a melodic gem and a great example of what can happen when two voices blend well together. The alt-country swing of “Tequila” showcases Martinez’s wonderful songwriting and expressive vocals. It’s inevitable – you’ll be singing along to this one.
The final track, “The Heart Wants What the Heart Wants”, is another Jones-Hoover co-write. An undeniably hummable melody and a pseudo Buddy Holly beat makes this one a most pleasurable listen.
