The Foreign Films – Ocean Moon
The Foreign Films (Bill Majoros) follow up 2018’s The Record Collector with another spectacular effort. Ocean Moon (New Songs and Hidden Gems) leans heavily on the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s (Beatles, Beach Boys, etc.) to create one of the most melodically pleasing albums of the year.
“Dream with Me Tonight” will bring back memories of 60’s and 70’s AM radio. I’ve always had a thing for songs about girls and “Katy” is SO catchy with an infectious bass line, sha-la-la’s and hey heys. Oh, and those strings. Those beautiful strings.
If you’re a fan of XTC, you’ll dig “Birds in a Blue Sky”. It kinda has that Skylarking feel to it. If piano driven odes to teen crushes are your thing, you’ll really enjoy “Down On the Boulevard”. “Under Your Spell” is another piano driven gem that I imagine John Lennon singing.
Extraordinary Songwriting
The Beatles influence can be heard all throughout “Stars in Her Eyes”, a very McCartney-esque track and a carry over from The Record Collector. The sax parts are a wonderful accent.
Every detail is accounted for, the songwriting is extraordinary and the execution spot on. The Foreign Films’ Ocean Moon is one of my favorite power pop albums of the year. I’m betting it’ll be one of yours, too. It’s release date is July 24 but you can order yours now from Kool Kat Musik.
