Ed Ryan – Don’t Follow Where They Lead

My introduction to Ed Ryan was 2017’s Furious Mind. The diversity in his songwriting immediately struck me – along with his guitar prowess. Last year’s Even Time was one of the best albums of 2020. Now, Ed gives us Don’t Follow Where They Lead, another collection of guitar driven gems.

“Anytown” gets this jangle-fest off to a great start. A short instrumental leads to the title track, an interesting departure from the norm as the tempo slows and the mood becomes more thoughtful. It’s a melodic gem with a wonderful arrangement. The little details, piano, horns – they all serves to make a terrific song even better.

The hard rockin’ “Hollow Man” may be my favorite track on Don’t Follow Where They Lead. With a monster hook of a chorus and Ed’s wonderful guitars, this track alone is worth the price of admission.
