Sergio Ceccanti – Mysterious Journey

Sergio Ceccanti – Mysterious Journey

Ahhhh. The lovely sound of guitar distortion wafting from an amplifier’s dirty old vacuum tubes. Like something out of Pulp Fiction, here comes Sergio Ceccanti’s Mysterious Journey. It’s the summer of ’58 all over again.

The album opens with “Mystery Girl”, an attention getter from the start with its retro-style guitar buzz. By contrast, “On My Way” is more on the jangly side of the street. But in both cases, Caccanti’s distinctive guitar style takes center stage. It’s not just dirty. It’s filthy. And I love it.

The Missing Link

Just when we think we have Sergio pegged, he gives us the sugary sweet “You Dropped Me Alone”, a track that’ll have you restlessly jumping around like a kid in a candy store. Then there’s “Can’t Stay Away From You”, a song that rumbles like a runaway train. Things slow down a bit with the contemplative  “From My Mysterious Journey” just before the ghost of Link Wray shows up again on “Forget Me”. This track actually reminds me a bit of Chris Isaac, too.

There is so much to like on Sergio Ceccanti’s Mysterious Journey. As far as guitar albums go, it’s one of my favorites of 2024. Check it out. If you like 50’s guitar or the soundtrack from Pulp Fiction, you’re gonna really dig Mysterious Journey. Get the physical CD at Kool Kat Musik or the digital at his Bandcamp page.
