Geoff Palmer – Pulling Out All The Stops
Best known for his work with The Connection, Geoff Palmer added his considerable talents to those of Brad Marino to create a hybrid sound that’s part Ramones, part Screeching Weasel, part Dave Edmunds and all its own. Now, Geoff Palmer steps out from behind the curtain with a brand new album entitled Pulling Out All The Stops. While Palmer’s solo release leans heavily on punk-pop influences, he does not eschew the traits that made The Connection so engaging; melody and great pop hooks.
That thunderous punk-pop sound pervades the entire record but it’s the smarter, more melodic songs that stand out. “I Like Murder Too” is perhaps the most original love song I’ve heard in quite some time. And its catchy as Hell, too. Palmer shows a keen sense of humor with “Velcro Shoes” as he wallows in the realization that his best days may be behind him.
“I’m in a bad mood all the time. I’m way past my prime. I’m getting fat. I’m getting old. I’m getting lost everywhere I go”.
Its lyrical gold….and musically, it kicks ass.
Other highlights include “Giving In”, “Paper Heart” and the very amusing “Everything is Cool”. Geoff Palmer has indeed pulled out all the stops with this one. You can get Pulling Out All The Stops at Rum Bar Records, Stardumb Records or Kool Kat Musik.
