P. Hux – This Is the One
Every time I think I’ve heard the year’s best album, a new one comes along. And this time funded as a Kickstarter project. This Is the One, the latest from P. Hux, is as enjoyable as any I’ve heard. It’s 11 singles in total, all hooks and no filler from one of North Carolina’s finest.
From the glam pop of “Just Sayin’” to the melodic and lyrical brilliance of “Honey, Sweet Baby”, there is so much to like here. Take this lyric for example, from the latter of the two:
“Met a woman on line that I’ve never seen. She seems pretty nice for an ex-marine. She wants me to meet her down in Mexico. Oh honey, sweet baby, why did you let me go?”
It makes you wanna laugh and cry at the same time. Now THAT’S a great lyric.
“Inside Your Shoes” is straight up, first rate guitar pop with an incredibly hooky chorus. The bottom line is that every track here is a keeper. Expect to see P. Hux’s This Is the One on many end of the year best of power pop lists – including this one.
