EPs from The New Frustrations and Kai Danzberg
Two EPs have recently crossed my desk, one clocks in on the long side and the other rather short. So it seemed only appropriate to review each within a single post. First up, German musician Kai Danzberg’s most recent EP called Sea of Music. Then we’ll discuss The New Frustrations’ shorter albeit very worthwhile effort.
One can hear the 80’s disco influence throughout Kai Danzberg’s latest effort, Sea of Music. Kai shows he’s got the funk thing down really well with the very dance-able “Don’t Waste My Time”. Similarly, “Tonight” has a techno dance feel to it. I’m more drawn to the piano driven “No Evidence” and equally as poppy “Time Machine”. Both these songs are pretty catchy, the first one in particular. I’ll be very interested to find out which direction Kai Danzberg decides to go with his next release.
Nine tracks from start to finish, you can get Sea of Music, HERE.
Boston punk-poppers The New Frustrations’ new EP is just four tracks in total but each and every one is a keeper. On first listen, they may remind you of any number of classic punk or power pop bands from the 70’s or 80’s. For me, they sound like a Replacements/Mission of Burma hybrid…with killer hooks.
“Not Any More” has the kind of shout along chorus that’s infectious. “Radio Generation” is an instant hit with me as I’ve always been a sucker for this song’s particular theme. It fits nicely between Kursaal Flyers’ “Television Generation” and Elvis Costello’s “Radio Radio” on my thematic playlist. But the coup de grace is “Right as Rain”. It’s one, big killer hook from start to finish.
