The On and Ons – Back For More
Menacing Smile was one of the best Eps of the year in 2020. The On and Ons are, well, Back For More. Their new full length bears that name and the distinction of being yet another stellar effort from the Aussie trio.
Jangly 60’s style garage pop is again the order of the day, this time with bigger harmonies and whopping hooks intact. “Hideaway” is a jangly ride through Hook-ville. “In and Out of Dreams” sounds like something Dave Edmunds would have enjoyed being part of. Well executed harmonies make this one something special.
The guitar hook in “Your Kind of World” is absolutely wonderful. It’ll bring you right back to 1965. If someone told me that this was written for The Monkees back in the day, I might believe them. The slightly darker “Be My Secret” may be my favorite tune of all.
As good as their previous efforts were (and they are special), The On and Ons’ Back For More is their best one yet. With their pedigree (the band includes former members of Hoodoo Gurus and Paul Collins Beat) one expects something great. With Back For More we get great and then some. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
