New albums by Squeeze, Weezer, They Might Be Giants
There’s been a flurry of new albums from several pop and power pop stalwarts this month. These are all October releases so you can get ‘em now. Just follow the links.
They Might Be Giants – I Like Fun
I Like Fun is an appropriate title for this one because fun is the operative word here. As usual, quirkiness prevails in a unique musical journey as John Linnel meanders in the most engaging way. Here’s the single. Get it from the TMBG website HERE.
Squeeze – The Knowledge
The follow up to 2015’s Cradle to Grave, Difford and Tillbrook’s new lineup includes some stellar musicians. Still, the songs were more ornate than those simple, quirky tunes from back in the day. If you’re a hardcore fan, this will give you your fix. But there are no classics here.
There will be a U.S. tour, albeit an abbreviated one. Thirteen dates, I believe, playing medium size venues including the Carolina Theatre here in Raleigh, N.C. Check your local listings, as they say.Get it from Amazon HERE.
Weezer – Pacific Daydream
An attempt at hooky California guitar pop, this one is being universally panned. Not as good as recent releases but not as bad as some would have you think. Get it at Apple Music HERE.
