Rob Stuart’s Broken Promise Keeper
If you like your power pop fast, catchy and just a little off center, you’ll really dig the latest from Broken Promise Keeper. Eleven tracks in all, Rob Stuart emphasizes the power in power pop and we, the listeners reap the benefits.
“Here We Go” will give you an adreniline rush as is a great pchoice to start the disc off. The mid-tempo “She’s So Cool” has the same cool vibe as “Spooky” and would be my pick for a single, if there were still such a thing.
I can say with some certainty that I’ve never heard anything quite like “Sasquatch Love”. Catchy as all get-go, it’s just a little bit twisted (okay, maybe a lot twisted) and it’ll bring on a chuckle or two, for sure. Back in the day, “Sasquatch Love” would have been a favorite on The Dr. Demento Show (much to my surprise, this show still exists streaming online!).
Other standout tracks include “Mother’s Work”, “Get My Message” with its Cars-like guitar parts and “Play Ball”, the latter being one of my favorite songs of the year so far. The intro is reminiscent of the opening to Sesame Street and acts as the perfect lead in to another painful lesson.
