Dave Merritt and The Golden Seals
Back in April of 2012, Dave Merritt and The Golden Seals released one of the best full length efforts of that year entitled Increase the Sweetness. At the time, I reviewed the disc and completely butchered the lyrics Merritt had written. Fortunately, Dave saw the humor in it and, in a very good natured way, straightened me out. It’s always a bonus when you find out that the songwriter who’s work you appreciate is also has a sense of humor.
While exchanging emails, Dave mentioned having once lived in Raleigh and played in a few local bands. I hope to follow up with him some time on that because, as you may know, I’m interested in all things North Carolina and powerpop. In the meantime, I had the opportunity to ask what he’s been up to and I’m very pleased to say that Dave is in the process of recording a new CD. Here are a few advanced sound samples for you to check out.

The band’s influences run everywhere from The Beatles to the Brill Building artists of the 60’s, so if that’s your thing you’ll want to check out Increase the Sweetness as well as the new disc when it eventually hits the street. You can check out the powerpop stylings of Dave Merritt and the Golden Seals at their website for more info.
