Powerpop Notes – Nick Lowe, David Myhr, Cheap Trick and Braden Blake
Here’s a few quick powerpop notes and updates that should get fans of the genre especially excited – especially fans of Nick Lowe, David Myhr, Braden Blake, and Cheap Trick:
If you haven’t heard by now, Nick Lowe will release his first holiday CD. The disc, entitled Quality Street: A Seasonal Selection for All the Family consists of a dozen songs. Some old standards and others new compositions, the disc features the work of some great song writers such as Roger Miller and ROY WOOD (!) as well as a few originals from Lowe.
Here’s the track list:
“Children Go Where I Send Thee” (Traditional)
“Christmas Can’t Be Far Away” (Boudleaux Bryant)
“Christmas at the Airport” (Nick Lowe)
“Old Toy Trains” (Roger Miller)
“The North Pole Express”
“Hooves on the Roof” (Ron Sexsmith)
“I Was Born in Bethlehem” (Nick Lowe)
“Just to Be With You (This Christmas)” (Ross Bon)
“Rise Up Shepherd” (Traditional)
“Silent Night” (Traditional)
“A Dollar Short of Happy” (Nick Lowe and Ry Cooder)
“I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day” (Wizzard)
David Myhr will be performing live on the internet through the platform called StageIt. If you’ve not tried it, it’s pretty awesome. The sound quality is much better than Skype or Google +. T0 top it off, David will be performing the entire 2nd side of the Beatles’ Revolver! Learn how you can attend here. Performance is TONIGHT at 4pm California time, 7pm New York time.
CHEAP TRICK CONCERT ALERT FOR THE CAROLINAS:
Cheap Trick will be at the Carolina Theatre in Durham NC on September 17! Don’t miss it!
Finally, I want to share a Braden Blake sighting. The former leader of the GREAT band Super Deluxe (and fine solo artist) keeps a low profile these days so when I found a fairly recent video of him performing “Years Ago”, I had to share it. Enjoy.
