Lemon Sparks – Raincloud In the Sun
It’s been five years since we last heard from Jeff Carroll and Lemons Sparks. Their debut LP was a pleasant surprise with it’s hooky choruses and interesting arrangements. Their new one, Raincloud in the Sun, is similarly first rate guitar pop.
The title track hangs on a great guitar riff, giving us a satisfying, somewhat soulful start to the proceedings. For me, the infectious bass line really works. The thoughtful, melodic “Ellie” is equally as pleasing. Jeff Carroll’s guitar work accents it perfectly. “The Right Way” sits in a groove that bares repeated listening.
“Laughable” has an alt-country rock vibe to it, somewhat reminiscent of Tom Petty or The Replacements for me. It’s the albums best track and one that will be in constant rotation at my house.
Rick Lassiter is back playing bass and just as with their debut album, Greg Tourian mans the drums. Peter Holsapple and his Hammond organ make an appearance on the title track as well.
Raincloud in the Sun consists of ten songs in all, every one a keeper. Get your copy HERE.
