Eytan Mirsky – Lord, Have Mirsky!
I remember writing a review of Eytan Mirsky’s fine 2019 album If Not Now…Later. While discussing one track in particular, I referenced Pat DiNizio and The Smithereens. While the vocal comparison still applies, Eytan’s newest album, humorously entitled Lord, Have Mirsky!, is a more laid back affair than previous releases. However, his latest shares one thing with all the others – it’s chock full of undeniably catchy melodies and pop hooks.
I was immediately enamored with the ever so tuneful “Pile of Leaves”. The more laid back approach kinda reminds me of Nick Lowe‘s (at that time) new direction on his Party of One album. Note to Eytan – this song feels like a licensing opportunity in the making. It’s perfect for TV.
As always, Mirsky’s wit and sense of humor come through on “I Don’t Wanna Brag”, “What Took You So Long” and “The Waiting Is the Easiest Part”. When it comes to relationship songs, he is the master. Most notably though, every one of these melodies is so very memorable. And just when we’ve settled in, Mirsky shifts into rocker mode with the album’s final track, “Watching from the Balcony”.
