CD Review: Weezer – Everything Will Be Alright In The End
Although Weezer’s Everything Will Be Alright In The End was on my list for best releases of 2014, I hadn’t had the chance to write a bit about it. Here’s my chance.
I don’t pretend to know if this is a (long) letter to Weezer fans or simply Rivers Cuomo coming out of the other end of a mid-life crisis but Everything Will Be Alright in The End is a highly enjoyable release. Rick Ocasek producers this one so the listener gets treated to the same crisp, glorious production as in past releases such as the Blue and Green albums.
We get the pissed off Rivers on “I’ve Had It Up to Here” (with its neat Queen-like choruses), the quirky Rivers on “Da Vinci” and the surf version of Rivers on “Go Away”. Rivers gets personal with “Foolish Father” and could be the coolest history teacher on the planet with “The British Are Coming”. Every one of these tracks is memorable from get-go with those irresistible melodies that Cuomo has such a knack for.
My personal favorite is “Back to the Shack”, which is for sure an open letter to some former Weezer fans who may want to revisit the band after a return to form with Everything Will Be Alright in the End.
Here’s the official video for “Back to the Shack”.
