Potty Mouth – Snafu

Potty Mouth – Snafu

Potty Mouth’s second full length release is called Snafu and it’s a giant leap forward from their first. If you had to assign it a genre, I guess it would be pop-punk but its so much more than that. Imagine if Weezer were still relevant. Throw in a small dash of Green Day. Maybe a little Fountains of Wayne. That’s Potty Mouth.

“22”, the album’s first single, is a great example of what the band does best. Short. Punchy. Memorable. Ali Einbinder and Abby Weems formed Potty Mouth while attending Smith College, the experience from which the song “Massachusetts” was likely born. Very Weezer -like and very cool. “Starry Eyes”, features the line “I’ve got starry eyes. You’re my favorite waste of time”. While I doubt they’re referencing The Records or Marshall Crenshaw, its interesting to think about.

The album’s highlight may be “Fencewalker”, a songwriting collaboration between Weems and Gina Schock of Go-Go’s fame. It doesn’t get any better than this. Thanks to Jeff Shelton for directing me towards this album.

If bands such as Green Day, The Go-Go’s and Weezer appeal to your tastes, then you need to pick up Snafu from Potty Mouth. Pick up your copy at their bandcamp page.

  1. I agree – this is a good album. Much more varied and developed, with more thought behind it, than your typical pop-punk album.
