Phil Thornalley & Astral Drive

Phil Thornalley & Astral Drive

This review of the new one from Astral Drive will be brief as it has been an incredibly tumultuous last few days. Please do not confuse brevity for a lack of enthusiasm on my part, though.

astral driveWith this new LP, Phil Thornalley (aka Astral Drive) gives us an outstanding collection of power pop tunes that connoisseurs of 70’s AM radio will absolutely love. Thornalley has quite the production resume, having worked with The Cure among other relatively high profile artists.

“Summer of ‘76” has all the soulfulness of a good Hall and Oates track. “Wishing I Could Change” is similarly soulful and one of the catchiest tracks I’ve heard yet this year. These are just a couple of the stellar tracks you’ll find on Astral Drive. There isn’t a bad track on the entire record.

Pick this one up. Get it from Kool Kat Musik. It comes highly recommended. Now, back to the rat race.
