The Gripweeds – Trip Around the Sun

The Gripweeds – Trip Around the Sun

One of New Jersey’s best, The Gripweeds, are back with another winner. With Trip Around the Sun, we get a dozen paisley pop songs with all the great harmonies, hooks and psychedelic styling we’ve come to expect from the brothers Reill.

gripweeds“Vibrations” starts things off just right with it’s Beach Boys harmonies and requisite guitar jangle. “I Like Her” is a deliciously hooky pop song with wonderful harmonies and unexpected punch. The trippy “Mr. Nervous” benefits from interesting percussive work, a powerful lead vocal and more lush harmonies.

I won’t go track by track. By now, you get the picture. The Gripweeds borrow from influences such as The Beach Boys, The Who and Pink Floyd to create an intoxicating mix that fans of 60’s rock simply can’t resist. Coupled with the band’s stellar songwriting, Trip Around the Sun is a blast from the past and a present to power pop fans everywhere.

If vinyl is your chosen medium, you can get The Gripweeds’ Trip Around the Sun from JEM Records. It’s a limited orange swirl pressing so get yours now. The CD is available at Kool Kat Musik. Finally, get your digital download from Amazon Music.
