Stereo Twins Brandt & Matt Huseman – Good News

Stereo Twins Brandt & Matt Huseman – Good News

Religious themes meet powerpop on former Greensberry Woods and Splitsville founders Brandt and Matt Huseman’s new full length. Calling themselves The Stereo Twins, their new release entitled Good News sounds at once like their former bands and then at other times, like something completely different. I have to admit, not being a fan of the Christian Rock genre, I was skeptical. But the brothers manage to pull it off quite nicely. There are songs here that will please both Greensberry Woods and Splitsville fans.

I have to admit that as a long time fan of both their previous bands, I have a predisposition toward guitar driven pop songs. So for me, this disc had some clear winners, songs that rose above all others. And much like the Greensberry Woods and Splitsville records, they tend to hang on great hooks, sound melodies and Beachboys-like harmonies. That makes “Signs and Wonder” an instant classic for me. With its irresistible melody and hooky chorus, this one is so radio friendly it would have been a hit back in the day when powerpop actually made play lists. The harmonies in “Stars Shine” make this one a delight. “Mariamne” could be a track off of an old Greensberry Woods record and “Phony” is another memorable track.

If we’re to label Good News as Christian Rock, then its the best of it’s genre. Melodic and engaging – everything good pop should be. If we’re to call it pop, then its simply a good record. You can purchase the CD or digital download here.
