Twas a week before Christmas – A GripWeeds CD Review

Twas a week before Christmas – A GripWeeds CD Review

Today, my power pop CD review will take a slightly different form than usual. Her’s my take on the new Gripweeds Christmas CD with a poetic twist:

Twas a week before Christmas – A Grip Weeds CD Review

Twas a week before Christmas, and all through the year
not a thing psychedelic had captured my ear.
I had repaired my radio with some duct tape
In hopes that I might get to hear Moby Grape.

Thinking this life couldn’t get any sadder
some mushrooms would soon re-arrange my gray matter.
Then getting the munchies, I ate in a flash,
Tore open the window, threw up all the hash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
was tarnished by all of that vomit below.
When, what to my glassy red eyes should appear,
but a host of musicians all carrying gear.

“Kurt Reil, Mark Lindsay, DiNizio, Babjak!
It’s Cameron, Grogan and Farrell and Horvath!”
What did they want with me? What prompted this call?
“It’s an Under the Influence Christmas, that’s all!”

From the Grip Weed’s new version of “2000 Miles”
to the chiming guitars that were mixed by Kurt Reil
You’ll dig the originals. Also the covers.
This is the best band since Frank Zappa’s Mothers!

11 great tracks released on Rainbow Quartz
I was so damn surprised that I soiled my shorts.
Hoping the Grip Weeds would play on and on
they broke into Jethro Tull’s “A Christmas Song”.

I guess you could say they pulled out all the stops
Till my crabby old neighbor had summoned the cops!
Another Jack Daniels with cranberry juice
then they did one more song written by Dr. Suess.

Then Kurt in his van, to his band gave a whistle,
to the House of Vibes they took off like a missile.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere they drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all an ass-kickin’ night!!”

Bottom Line: The latest Gripweeds Christmas CD is one of the best holiday related titles I’ve hard in some time. Pick this one up.
